PopCast Episode 6: I Can Get No Satisfaction

Episode 6 - I Can Get No Satisfaction

Where to start? Better yet, where to end? I can't possibly do justice to all the crazy stuff that's already gone down at the festival. And we're only on day two here. I can't tell you anything about the TTC show, because Islands was opening for Beck (and doing both proud by performing a great cover version of One Foot in the Grave's "Cyanide Breath Mint") last night. I did hear that the TTC show kicked ass, however. "Show of the festival", said our Creative Director Dan Seligman. He likes saying show of the festival. But who knows, maybe he was right. That's kind of the great thing about being bombarded by so many shows—a lot of 'shows of the festival' tend to happen. Props to Bus Driver for making a guest appearance along with Subtitle on stage with Islands (doing their Corn Gangg impression) before booting it over to open for TTC.

Things got loud and dirty at the Academy Club last night where the Besnard Lakes, the Donkeys, and Bionic kicked off the party. The city pissed rain all morning like the whole damn place was hung over, but woke up around 2pm with some sun. It's a bit chillier, but I'm going to grab a warm roti and hunker down for the home stretch.

There's too much happening for one man to keep track of; if you have any documentation of any Pop Montreal event, send them to andrew at popmontreal.com. We'll publish well written reviews, photos, whatever you got if you want to send it.

The podcasting continues as much as is possible. Shifting focus a bit to bring you some more party sounds and the like. This episode is full of information loose-ends, more Pop performer tracks and a neat jam session that was just recorded featuring Gisele from the Hot Springs, SoCalled, Francis and Thomasino from Malajube, Séba and Marlène Richer.

Bear with me, there's also the world's best music party going on ... right now.

In this episode:

Marcel Marceau, Black Mountain and Film Pop, SS Cardiacs and Blocks, The Old Soul, Cadence Weapon, Gisele's Jambourie with SoCalled, some Malajubers and guests.

PopCast! Pop Montreal joins the revolution.

The mandate mutates sooner that I suspected ... only good reasons for it, however. I'm taking over podcasting duties over at Pop Montreal (launching their first ever podcast, that is), and with the festival so close, it would be a bit too redundant and time-consuming for me to be publishing new material here as well. However, with the office a flurry of activity over at Pop Montreal, I have no idea how long it's going to take for a proper feed to get set up over there. So I'll be syndicating the PopCast here, as well. We're hoping to have about 10 episodes altogether between now and October 2nd, so check back regularly if you're not a subscriber. I'll shut up now.

Episode 1 - (Self Titled)

Ok, here we go. Attempt number one. A brief hello, an informal mission statement, Wolf Parade, fluid communities, We're Marching On, Social Arts Club, Pop Montreal, Broken Social Scene and more ....

Hopefully everything will sound better with each new episode. I'll attempt for weekly updates, and then reassess in a month's time or so.

I prefer candid talk to the over-polished, but I don't want anyone to have to listen to me umming and ahhing the whole time. Feedback welcome, but be gently with me; I''m a virgin.
